Emergency Food and Shelter Grants


The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program was created in 1983 to supplement the work of local social service organizations within the United States, both private and governmental, to help people in need of emergency assistance.


United Way of the Greater Seacoast administers the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) annually for Rockingham and Strafford Counties.  The EFSP grant program is administered annually.


Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must:

  1. be a non-profit organization
  2. have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit
  3. practice nondiscrimination
  4. have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
  5. if a private voluntary organization, must have a voluntary board


Local agencies qualifying are encouraged to apply for these funds. Individuals are not eligible to receive EFSP funds.


Phase 26 (2008) applications are due by 12:00 noon on April 23, 2008.
